The first thing that strikes VN about “No More Idols” is just how many tracks on it we already know – “Let you go”, “Hypest Hype”, “End Credits”, and “Blind Faith” have all been radio smashes that have long caused the volume to be turned up in VN Towers. There are also some big hitters that join in with the big hits, as Dizzee Rascal, Sub Focus, Ceelo Green, Plan B, and Tinie Tempah all join in the party. Dizzee’s appearance is particularly foul mouthed and hard hitting, but all the guests have enough of themselves in the track to make their appearances worth more than a name-drop.
In terms of highlights, “Hypest Hype” will still keep you shouting along as loudly as the first time you heard it, and “Time”, featuring the vocals of Delilah, is female led fabulousness. The large number of vocalists is a great asset to the album, with proper songs the order of the day, as opposed to indulgent instrumental fillers.
Chase and Status have moved into a slightly more dubby direction than they were originally known for, but the album still has enough hooks to catch listeners, and make sure they can’t escape. Their previous EP, “More than a lot”, was exactly that, and was designed to make sure we all knew who Chase and Status were, but the duo don’t just offer straight up dance floor d’n'b anymore. This full album is a bit more subtle, which means that while not every track will get you raving around your room, it will keep you listening to “No More Idols” long after the initial thrill has past.
