The King’s Speech, the film that depicts George VI’s battle to overcome a stutter and lead the country in war, has won four Academy Awards at the Oscars last night, including the coveted Best Picture award. It also won in two other major categories, with Colin Firth crowned Best Actor , and Tom Hopper awarded Best Director. Dissapointingly, neither Helena Bonham-Carter nor Geoffrey Rush won the ‘Best Supporting…” awards they were nominated for, they went to Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, both in The Fighter. Natalie Portman won Best Actress for her performance in Black Swan. Surprisingly, the Social Network, the film that tells the story of Facebook, didn’t win in any major categories, although it still came away with three awards. Inception also claimed four Oscars.
